Here is the view of Janine, a colleague who worked with us in the summer. It is her advice for those who are already planning their next holiday. Do you have a busy life? Silly question - nowadays everybody does. Tip - please do not take your stress with you when going on holidays. Do not carry that bit of extra luggage – it will turn your holiday into a horror trip.
We read magazines on the way to work or in-between appointments, throwing keywords at us, referring to how we could take a break and relax, clear our senses, indulge and pamper ourselves. We start to imagine our next dream holiday in some place where we would not have to worry about anything. But let’s face it – who can just “switch off” once they arrive in such a place? It all starts when you arrive at the airport, queuing to check in, queuing to passport control, queuing to baggage control. We feel tired and exhausted and just want to finally get to that one place we have been dreaming of for so long. We reflect on the preparation of the much needed holiday - planning it out, sorting the paperwork and eventually packing the suitcases. Once we have landed at our destination, the children are very excited as well as exhausted and we cannot wait to get to the hotel. At this point, it does not take more that one minor detail to go wrong to break our nerves. It is a little like playing Domino. Once the first brick falls, all you can do is observe how inevitably everything starts falling apart in front of your eyes. I wonder, does it have to be this way? Maybe we should just take a deep breath before we leave the house and consider everything that could possibly go wrong. Then, when it doesn’t we will feel pleased. And if something does go wrong, we will face two options: We could either let it ruin our well-earned time of relaxation or we could look at it from a different angle. We are on holiday, where time does not matter, where we can sit back and let others do their jobs so that we have a great time. If you have a problem, whatever it is, hand it over to somebody and take a seat at the pool, have a cocktail, walk along the beach, do whatever you came here for….and be sure that somebody else is going to handle things for you. You have invested so much time to choose the right place, the right property, the right service. Now let them prove that your choice was the right one.
Do not pack your stress – pack your patience and eventually, you will have the holiday you well deserve.
